I still find it hard to call my creative time working.... there are times when it is hard work, but it still has the enjoyment of a creative outlet, so maybe I'm really hardly working! Whatever I should call it, I'm busily creating three different animals... they are all surprises. The only thing I'll say right now is that none of them are bears. There will be more bears coming up after these three are done! And now I'll get back to it!

I've been seriously neglecting this blog... my only excuse is that I've been working hard at a new bear. He is made from ultra soft recycled fox fur from a vintage coat. He is so sweet! I just finished my newest panda and couldn't wait to share him with you! He is made from recycled mink fur (from coats). I had so much fun with this little guy, and a lot of challenges too... it's amazing how much harder I find working in recycled fur as opposed to faux fur.

We saw three black bears while out driving on an old road.... beautiful creatures! We also had 2 momma black bears in our neighbourhood this year - one of them had two cubs and one had 3. At one point, there was a count of 11 bears within our neighbourhood!

Hello again! :o) I haven't had a lot of time to be on-line... have had a lot of company lately. But I have had time to create Naneso... by newest sweet black bear cub. His name means "my child" and he is so full of personality.

I just love the part about creating bears when the sweet personality really starts showing. As soon as I can open/close his eyes, I really feel that the bear has come to "life". Each extra detail adds to my excitement as I finish the bear. I spent so much time creating Naneso that by the time I was done he did feel like "my child".

baby owl coming up!

I've had so many requests for me to create another baby owl, that I've decided that now is the time! This baby is coming along well... I'm enjoying it as it has been quite some time since I created my other baby owls. This one is a little different as, instead of recycled muskrat, I'm using recycled mink fur. I just love that fluffy look!

I'll be putting this owlet up for auction on ebay on Sunday. At least that is the plan :o)

Copyright infringement of one of my pieces

Hello to everyone :o)

I just wanted to let you all know what has happened about the copyright infringement of the owlet (Nasha) I created. For anyone who didn't hear about it, a design company took a photograph I had taken of Nasha and used it in a "Talking Baby Owl" app for iPhone without my consent. It was being sold all over the world. I found out about it because someone kindly emailed me to let me know. I sent the design company a "cease and desist" letter and sent Apple an email asking them to cooperate with making sure it was removed from their iTunes store. It was immediately removed from the store. If you are curious about the app, you can see a spec page of it here:

It seems that some people don't understand that artists continue to keep the copyright to their work after it is sold. At http://www.arsny.com/basics.html I found this wording: "A work that is created (fixed in tangible form for the first time) on or after January 1, 1978, is automatically protected from the moment of its creation and is given a term of copyright protection enduring for the lifetime of the artist plus an additional 70 years after the artist's death."

I've been considering taking legal action in this case and have been advised by legal council that I have a case in this matter. Has anyone else had to deal with this? What advice would you have for me?

We saw a grizzly and a black bear today...

Our puppies are growing up so fast! I was planning to create a newborn puppy... but by the time I got to working on it, they had already grown much bigger! They are still so adorable and a wonderful inspiration for this life-like puppy. Our puppies are mostly black, but since black is so hard to photograph,I decided to make a the body of this puppy similar to those pups, but to give it the coloring that their mom, Naiya, had when we first got her. She is a bloodhound/rottie cross and her coloring is much easier to photograph than black! I've named this little sweetie after her.

I just wanted to share the litter of puppies that our sweet Bloodhound/Rottie had last week. I'm dying to finish up my current projects and start on a newborn puppy. I don't think I'll make it quite as dark as these ones as it is hard to get the camera to take a good photo of dark objects. But I'll try to make it just as adorable!!

She had nine healthy babies and is a wonderful mom!

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy seeing my newest panda baby! I've been so excited about her :o) I was inspired by photos of orphaned pandas so I also made her a tiny "bamboo" baby bottle. She was such a enjoyable baby to create... one of the reasons I love doing this is the feeling I get when I can hold the finished little one in my hands and feel my heart flip flop when I look in their eyes.

... and she's close to being finished. Most of my pandas are boys, but this one seems to be determined to be a sweet little girl :o) She is the same size as most of my other miniature pandas that I've been doing, but with some different details. She is a bit younger than the other cubs, so she will still have some pink to her nose and paw pads. I'm really enjoying her, so I couldn't wait until Sunday to let you know she will be my next ebay auction!

A sweet little bear... I found this beautiful faux fur that is grey with white tips and I just had to use it for a realistic miniature bear. I just love how he is turning out! I've stuffed him a little less to allow his armature to hold more poses and is it ever fun to pose him. My favorite pose at the moment is him curled up sleeping... I'm really looking forward to his photo shoot!

This was a fun project as my husband helped me with creating the chair. As well as being a piece of art on its own, it has some of our local history in it. The telegraph wire used for the frame is a remnant of the telegraph line put in through our area in 1866 as part of the Collins Overland Telegraph and there are still some areas where you can find parts of it. My husband found a length of this wire while out hiking – it is very sturdy and is perfect for this kind of creation.

I'm a little nervous about showing her as she is the first of my art dolls that I've shared with everyone. I've made a couple others over the years, but just for myself.

Coleen is made of paper mache - a very time consuming way to create a doll! She has soft glass Masterpiece eyes and tea dyed tibetan lamb hair. I needle felted her hat and mitts and added beautiful vintage rhinestone buttons. Her winter coat is accented with a lace ruffle underneath. Her boots have applied suede over the paper mache. Her paper mache snow stand is weighted for stability. She is a static art doll and one-of-a-kind.

.... is that it is so hard to tell how long something will take. I thought I'd be finished my 12" panda today, but it turns out that I didn't estimate enough time. My constant headache made things more difficult today, but I have made some progress on this sweetie. My new estimate is to have him on ebay by Tuesday - maybe this time I'll be right :o) So far I am loving him... he just needs a couple finishing touches!

.... and we are completely snowed in! The snow is coming down like a marathon runner - keeping up a steady pace. It wouldn't be a problem for me, but I forgot to put coffee on the list when I last went to town and we're down to the last few beans :o( I love my coffee.....

I'm still working hard at finishing my current creation... a 12" panda cub with open/close eyes and mouth. We had a blizzard here on Friday and very cold weather. Today it is snowing with a heavy snowfall warning being given for our area. Perfect! It gives me lots of time to stay inside and concentrate on this baby panda :o) I'm just glad we've got two strong boys who help with the animal chores and bringing in the firewood!

I'm busily working on two panda cubs right now - both out of recycled mink fur. One is a 5" miniature, and the other will be about 12". I'm closer to being done the littlest one, perhaps I'll have photos tomorrow.

I just love creating these pandas - to me it's the next best thing to being around a real one :o)

Thank you for letting me introduce my latest koala baby! He is made with recycled sheared beaver fur with recycled mink accents. He doesn't have open/close eyes/mouth, or claws, but he still has lots of detail. I hope you enjoy seeing him!

While I was taking these photos, one of our cats decided to pose for me... well, really she took over my set and I took advantage of it!

Busily working....

It's a gorgeous white day here today... the snow is coming down steadily and everything is covered in it. I wish I could stay home all day and create, but I do have to go to physio and take my children to swimming lessons. That's the worst part of winter for me... driving in it.

I am busily working on my newest creations. One is a commissioned koala, and the other I hope to have ready for ebay next Sunday. The commissioned koala is made from recycled sheared beaver fur - the first koala I've done in this fur. I don't think there is anything softer than sheared beaver!

It's been a busy couple of weeks! Yesterday I finished my newest creation... a miniature baby black bear named Saud by his new mom :o) He will be traveling to Qatar! I hope you enjoy seeing him!

Winter

It warmed up a little and now the snow has mostly vanished. It'll be back soon though.

I wish I was more of a winter person... the kind that enjoys skiing or hiking through the woods in snowshoes. But I'm more a sit by the fire with hot cocoa and a good book type. The nice thing about winter is it gives me plenty of time to create.

I'm just finishing up my little Pomeranian puppy and am also working on something to go with her... I'm looking forward to sharing her with everyone!

Some were wondering what I'm creating right now, so I thought I'd let everyone know that I'm working on a miniature Pomeranian created from recycled mink fur. Ever since we adopted our Mini Blue Pomeranian this summer, I've been wanting to create one. Our little girl is named Penny and is such a sweetheart! This is Penny when we first got her...

What I was wondering is... what is your favorite name for a Blue (Black) Pomeranian? I may use the most popular name to name the puppy I'm creating.

Please let me introduce Plum Duff! After the intense work of creating Amaroo, I needed to do something completely different. My 7 year old daughter was trying out needle felting for the first time, so I decided to do another bear with a needle felted face. It's been quite a few months since I created one, so I figured it was about time. I hope you enjoy seeing him!

Our rescue horses

Last year we adopted two rescue horses and I thought I'd share photos of them with you :o)

This is Savanna when we first got her....

Savanna had been starved and neglected. The rescue had her for a while, but she was still underweight when she came to live with us. She was on a special diet for many months so she could gain weight. This is a photo of her from this summer...

This is Logan when we first got him...

He was given to the rescue as a result of a divorce and was extremely easy to spook when he first came here. He has gotten over a lot of his nervousness since he has been here. Here's a photo of him from this summer....

They are both such sweethearts and so beautiful to me. It was a dream of mine to own my own horses all my life and last year it finally came true. Unfortunately, just as this summer was starting, I ended up with a head and neck injury which made it so I couldn't ride for a while. I''m hoping that I'll be able to get back to that next year :o)

I just had to share this photo I took two years ago. Here in Northern BC we are so fortunate as we can see bears quite often. I took this photo on a road trip to Stewart BC (about 4 hours drive from where I live). This summer we saw a Kermode crossing the road in front of us, but I wasn't quick enough with my camera. I did get this photo of a brown phase black bear this summer.
